WILLIAM JOSEPHS RADFORD

DEFLOWERED

As an artist, I strive to create works that challenge the viewer's expectations and preconceptions. My latest series of floral photographs is a perfect example of this. At first glance, these images may seem like run-of-the-mill flower portraits. However, I employed a completely unique and never-before-seen technique to capture them.

To create these works, I set up a darkroom and placed the flowers inside. With my camera set to a long exposure, I used the light from a phone screen displaying pornographic content to illuminate the blooms. The resulting images reflect a stark contrast between the delicate beauty of the flowers and the explicit content that was used to light them.

Through this series, I aimed to explore the controversial topic of porn addiction and raise awareness about the need for greater sensitivity in our society. By juxtaposing the natural beauty of the flowers with the provocative imagery of pornography, I hope to encourage viewers to reexamine their own relationship with this oft-desensitizing material.
